The Chiemgau and Mangfalltal mountains are ideal for mountain beginners and mountain experts in Bavaria. The wonderful Bavarian Alpine foothills with hills and lakes meet well-known mountains such as the Kampenwand (1,669 m) and Wendelstein (1,838 m), the Chiemgau mountains to the east, the Mangfall mountains to the west and Tyrol to the south.

HIKING AROUND BAD AIBLING
The Chiemgau Alpine foothills, with their gentle landscape, are ideal for hiking as well as leisurely walks. Of course, you can also include high-altitude hikes in the hilly mountain terrain or challenging mountaineering in the Wendelstein massif in your itinerary. Against the impressive backdrop of the Bavarian Alps, there are many signposted hiking trails of varying lengths around our hiking hotel in Bad Aibling.

HIKING AROUND THE WENDELSTEIN
At 1838 meters, the Wendelstein, which is part of the Mangfallgebirge, is one of the highest mountains in Bavaria and offers a remarkable view of the Bavarian Alpine foothills thanks to its exposed location. The Wendelstein Church, the highest church in Bavaria, is also located near the summit.
How to get there
The best place to start by car is the valley station of the Wendelstein rack railroad, which takes you up to the summit station (ascent and descent approx. EUR 42.00 per person, journey time approx. 25 minutes.
Hiking tour
On the summit circular trail, you will hike past a 200-million-year-old show cave, among other things. Here you can learn a lot about the northern Limestone Alps. Various marked hiking trails lead back to the valley or you can take the cog railroad, which you can join at various stages along the descent - depending on your fitness level. Another alternative is to take the Cable car to the valley station in Bayrischzell. Before heading home, we can recommend the waterfalls at Tatzelwurm.
Retreat
If you take a look at the waterfalls, the “Feuriger Tatzelwurm” alpine inn is only about 300 meters away.
HIKING AT KRANZHORN
The Kranzhorn, located directly on the Bavarian-Tyrolean border, is one of the most famous panoramic mountains in the Tyrolean lowlands. Its summit straddles the border between Bavaria and Tyrol, marked by two summit crosses—one for each region. With various ascent options, the Kranzhorn is suitable for seniors, families, and experienced hikers alike.
Getting there
The most convenient and shortest route is by car via Erlerbergstraße (turn left) to the designated "Wanderparkplatz Kranzhornhütte" (a paid parking lot with a flat fee of €2).
Tour recommendation
From the parking lot, an approximately one-hour hike on a gently ascending path leads to the Kranzhorn-Alm. For more athletic hikers, a steeper trail via the "Erler Herz" takes about two hours (starting point: Erl, district Scheiben). From the scenic Kranzhornhütte, a short but steep 20-minute path leads to the summit, where hikers are rewarded with breathtaking views.
Refreshments
The Kranzhornhütte offers delicious regional specialties, making it an ideal spot for a break.
PANORAMIC HIKE KAMPENWAND
The Kampenwand is a 1,699-meter-high scenic peak in the Chiemgau Alps, perfectly suited for panoramic hikes.
Getting There
Travel to Aschau im Chiemgau (approximately 35 km away). From there, take the Kampenwand cable car to the top (about €10 per person for groups of 20 or more).Hiking
From the mountain station, you can hike along the panoramic trail wearing sturdy footwear and enjoy the views. It's an easy, roughly one-hour hike that even inexperienced hikers can manage well.

At the mountain inn, you can complement the enjoyment of breathtaking views with a hearty Bavarian snack.
HIKING AROUND THE WILDER KAISER
The "Wilder Kaiser" is a mountain range in the Tyrolean Alps with numerous peaks over 2,000 meters. The landscape appears particularly impressive when viewed from the valley. Getting there The mountain range and Lake Hintersteiner are about an hour's drive away by car, crossing the border into Austria. Tour and Activities A highly recommended activity is hiking around Lake Hintersteiner in the valley, where you can experience the majestic backdrop up close. The summer toboggan run is also fun, and in winter, there are beautiful cross-country skiing trails. To round off your hike, a detour to Kufstein, the old knight's town on the Inn River, is worthwhile. The fortress hill with Kufstein Fortress is a place of wonder, especially since the entire castle complex is open for visitors. Refreshments After taking in so many sights, the wine house/restaurant "Auracher Löchl" in the heart of Kufstein invites you to stop by. There, you'll be treated to hearty Tyrolean specialties, with mood music providing entertainment.
OBERAUDORF / HOCHECK
Oberaudorf Hocheck is an attractive recreational area in both summer and winter, featuring a state-of-the-art detachable 4-seater chairlift.
Getting There
The drive to Oberaudorf takes about 30 minutes by car.

Oberaudorf-Hocheck offers a true feast for the senses in summer:

CIRCULAR ROUTE AROUND THE NEUBEURER SCHLOSSBERG - WOLF GORGE
Neubeuern Castle is an important landmark in our region. It is situated on a gentle hill in the Inn Valley and has been in existence since the 12th century. Guided tours are possible on advertised dates and concerts are regularly held in the castle. The surrounding area is ideal for easy hikes.
How to get there
The starting point is the parking lot at Neubeuern town hall. You can reach it from Bad Aibling in just under 20 minutes.
Hiking tour
To start your easy, approx. 45-minute hike, take the one-way street in the direction of Neubeuern Castle. Then take the turn-off onto Pfarrer-Leo-Hochreiter-Weg and continue to the edge of the forest. From here, follow the path to the left through the Wolfsschlucht gorge. In the Wolfsschlucht gorge, millstones used to be quarried, which were also good for grinding. At the end of the Wolfsschlucht at the castle tennis court, you leave the forest again and now reach the historic market square via the Gasteig. From here you walk back to the starting point.
DOAGL ALM
The Doagl Alm is a local institution in the Chiemsee-Alpine region, with many hikers setting out early in the morning to enjoy a delicious breakfast surrounded by a magnificent mountain backdrop.
Getting There
Drive to Frasdorf – Grainbach (about 34 km) to Samerberg. You can park your car at the Holmann parking lot.
Path to the Alm
After a scenic hike of about 45 minutes, you'll reach the Doagl Alm, a rustic yet charming alpine hut at the foot of the Hochries mountain.
Refreshments
The main goal of this hike is to enjoy a tasty breakfast or a hearty Bavarian snack at the Doagl Alm. Bon appétit!
HOCHRIES
If you still have energy and desire after breakfast at the Doagl Alm and the return trip to the parking lot, you can conclude your day with a hike to the Hochries summit.
Getting there
Drive to the Holman parking lot as described for the Doagl Alm. From there, take the chairlift to the Ebenwaldalm and then the cable car (approximately €11 per person) to the Hochries summit.
Tour
At the summit, you'll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Central Alps and the Samerberg high valley. Instead of taking the cable car down, you can also hike part of the way on foot.

HOCHFELLN
The Hochfelln is another peak in the Chiemgau Alps, offering magnificent views of the Bavarian Alpine foothills from an elevation of about 1,600 meters.
Getting there
Take the A8 motorway to Bergen (approximately 40 minutes). Then ride the cable car to the summit (round trip costs about €12 per person).
Hiking
Enjoy the spectacular mountain panorama from the top. Take the Hochfelln cable car back down to the Bründlingsalm (middle station). From there, you can hike to Bergen (about 1.5 hours) or take a longer route via the pilgrimage site Maria-Eck to Bergen (about 2.5 hours).
THIERSEE / LANDL

Anfahrt
Fahrt über Kiefersfelden zum Passionsspielort Thiersee (ca. 40 Minuten) in Tirol / Österreich.
Tour
Spaziergang um den See (wunderbarer naturbelassener Bergsee), Bademöglichkeit. Weiter nach Landl auf die Ackeralm (Maut! oder zu Fuß 6km bergauf). Auf der Ackeralm finden Sie zahlreiche Sennerhütten, eine Käserei mit Verkostung, Wanderwege und einen herrlichen Ausblick auf das Kaisergebirge und Scheffauer Berg. Rückfahrt über Bayrischzell, Sudelfeld, Tatzelwurm nach Bad Aibling.
